Health questions
When should I see a general physician instead of going to the emergency department?
Book a physician for symptoms that are stable or developing over days — fever, cough, fatigue, high sugar or BP readings. Go to emergency or call 108 immediately for chest pain, severe breathlessness, stroke signs (face drooping, arm weakness, slurred speech), seizures, fainting or heavy bleeding.
How often should I check my HbA1c if I have diabetes?
Usually every three months until your target is reached and treatment is stable, then every three to six months. Your doctor will set the interval based on your control and medicines.
What is a normal blood pressure?
Below 120/80 mmHg is normal. Repeated readings of 140/90 mmHg or above in the clinic, or 135/85 mmHg or above at home, are considered high blood pressure and should be reviewed by a doctor.
Is it safe to take painkillers for fever?
Paracetamol at the recommended dose is generally safe. Avoid ibuprofen, diclofenac and aspirin during fever until dengue has been ruled out, because they can increase bleeding risk.
